Nagorik Committee wants Valerie's reinstatement as CRP coordinator
DU Correspondent
Nagorik Committee, a citizens' committee, yesterday demanded dissolution of trustee board of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) and reinstatement of its founder Valerie A Taylor to her post as coordinator. The board of trustees of the CRP at Savar recently removed Valerie Taylor from her position of coordinator. Taylor has been with the institution since its founding. The Committee made the demand at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity. Since distrust among the members of the trustee board has surfaced, all the members of the board should resign immediately, the Committee observed. Nagorik Committee urged government intervention at CRP and vowed to continue its efforts to eradicate the ongoing mismanagement and corruption at CRP until the board members resign voluntarily and Taylor is reinstated to her deserved position. Until a fresh trustee board is formed, the centre should be administered under full supervision of Taylor so the physically challenged can continue receiving necessary medical services and rehabilitation at a nominal cost, suggested Nagorik Committee. Moreover, persons who are selfless and dedicated to humanitarian work should be included in the new trustee board under the leadership of Taylor to ensure that malevolent elements cannot gain their foothold again at the institute in the future, the Committee added. The Committee urged all to come forward in support of Taylor's reinstatement to her post for the welfare of the physically challenged. Valerie A Taylor, Engineer SM Anwar Hossain, Kabir Chowdhury, Maj Gen (retd) ATM Abdul Wahab, Ramendu Mojumdar, Mohammad Saidur Rahman, Mohammad Mushtak Ahmed, Akku Chowdhury and Golam Morshed were present at the conference.
