Fakhruddin faints at function, goes home after check-up

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed fell ill out of exhaustion at a public function in Tangail yesterday morning and later had a check-up at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.

Fakhruddin, however, returned to his residence in good health in the afternoon.

The 67-year-old head of the caretaker government suddenly fell sick while addressing the inaugural function of the National Tree Plantation Movement and Tree Fair 2007 at Tangail District Sadar ground.

He was immediately taken to Tangail Hospital where he was given first aid and nursing.

Later, he was brought to the capital by a helicopter.

At the CMH, necessary check-ups were done and everything was found normal. The chief adviser had his lunch there and took rest before leaving for home.

"I'm completely well. Thank you all for coming here. Pray for me," a smiling Fakhruddin told awaiting newsmen just before getting into his car at the CMH at 5:05pm.

Talking to reporters, the CA's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim said the chief adviser would hopefully attend his office today (Monday).

Fakhruddin fell sick during delivering a lengthy speech as it was excessive hot yesterday, according to sources at the Chief Adviser's Office.

After he was flown to Dhaka and taken to the CMH, President Iajuddin Ahmed inquired about his health conditions. Iajuddin talked to him over mobile phone.

Law Adviser Mainul Hosein, Communications Adviser Major General (Retd) MA Matin and Power Adviser Tapan Chowdhury went to the CMH to see the chief adviser.
