275 killed in May

A total of 275 people were killed, including 30 by law enforcers and 10 by Border Security Force (BSF) of India, across the country during the month of May, says an Odhikar report.Odhikar, a human rights organisation, prepared the report based on news published in 11 national dailies. It said 30 of the victims were killed by law enforcers, including 14 by Rab, 10 by police and one each by joint forces, Navy and jail police, and three during joint drives by Rab and police during the period. The report also said BSF killed 10 Bangladeshi nationals along the border apart from picking up nine during the month. Ten of the 275 victims died in various jails of the country. Besides, five journalists were injured and two arrested during the month while 31 received death threats for their reports, the report added. The report also said that five women were killed after being raped while 15 were murdered for dowry during this period.
