Hasina resents govt 'inaction'

Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina yesterday resented the caretaker government's 'indifference' to her call for proper treatment of the party's detained General Secretary Abdul Jalil and Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, both in 'poor health'.

She came up with the reaction when some of the AL leaders went to visit her at Sudha Sadan residence.

The former prime minister on Wednesday talked to the chief adviser and the law adviser over telephone and requested them to make sure Jalil and Selim are treated properly, said a number of AL men who met her yesterday.

AL Presidium Member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Bangladesh Bar Council Vice-President Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud, and AL's central working committee member Shahjahan Khan were among those who exchanged views with her.

Meanwhile, most of the senior leaders refrained from meeting Hasina after the joint forces picked up the party leaders on May 28.

Talking to the reporters outside the Sudha Sadan, Shahjahan Khan said, "She was quite upset as the adviser whom she had requested to arrange proper treatment of Jalil and Selim, did not pay attention."
