Immigration

Since 14 May 2007, the Australian Immigration Department has changed its requirements for Bangladeshi students who seek to do higher studies in Australia. This student visa category 573 enables students to enroll in Bachelor Degree, Graduate Diploma, Masters by Coursework etc in Australian universities. Bangladesh has been grouped with only 3 other countries in the world which will face a severe restriction to obtain this visa. As a result, obtaining Australian student visa for a Bangladeshi student will become extremely difficult. The number of Bangladeshi students studying in Australia may drop by 80% or even more.

As per the new rule, only parents, siblings, Australian resident uncle-aunts etc will be able to sponsor a Bangladeshi student, whereas in the past anyone having the required amount of money could sponsor a student.

I fail to understand the reason behind Australia's decision to stop our students from pursuing higher studies in Australia.
