Private English Medium Schools Forum formed
Bangladesh Private English Medium Schools Forum has been formed recently with the aim of bringing about a uniform standard of education among private English medium institutions of the country, says a press release.

The forum was registered with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies under Section 28 of the Companies Act 1994. Membership is open to all private English medium schools.

The ten founder-members are Bangladesh International Tutorial, Dhanmondi Tutorial, Happy Times International School, Maple Leaf International School, Mastermind School, Oxford International School, Scholastica, South Breeze School, Sunbeams and Sunnydale.

The elected office-bearers of the forum are Yasmeen Murshed -- chairman; Niloufer Manzur -- vice-chairman; S Fakhruddin Ahmed -- member secretary; Lubna Chowdhury -- joint secretary; and Sakhawat Hossain -- treasurer.

The main objectives of the forum are:

-- To encourage English medium schools to register under the respective education boards according to government rules and to follow a uniform curriculum.

-- To ensure Bangla language competency levels of students of the O&A Level system which will be equivalent to the national SSC & HSC levels and will ensure admission into public and private universities in Bangladesh.

-- To ensure that the textbooks used in private English medium schools accurately reflect the history, culture, customs and values of the people of Bangladesh with due importance and respect so that students become imbued with a deep sense of commitment to their own heritage and can highlight Bangladesh internationally with a sense of dignity and pride.
