Arguments in Mamun's graft case June 4
Unb, Dhaka
The special court yesterday fixed June 4 for arguments in the graft case against Giasuddin Al Mamun, as he failed to bring journalists as witnesses in his defence.Earlier, Mamun had told the court that he could not comply with the ACC notice as he was "detained" in the custody of the law enforcers. He cited newspaper reports on his arrest and wanted to justify his claim by producing the journalists who filed the reports. When the hearing resumed yesterday, defence counsel for Mamun, instead of producing the journalists before the court, submitted the relevant paper clippings as evidence. Opposing the defence plea, ACC Public Prosecutor AFM Golam Fattah submitted that those paper clippings do not bear any value in the eye of the Evidence Act. After hearing both sides, judge M Ashraf Hossain, however, keeping the paper clippings on record, set June 4 for arguments.
