One killed, 15 hurt in clash over land in Sunamganj

A young man was killed and 15 others injured in a clash between two rival groups over land properties at Chhata Alagpur village of Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj district yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Chandan Miah, 30, son of late Intaj Ali. Among the injured, two were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition while others received treatment at a local hospital. Police said there had been a longstanding rivalry between the men of Bahar Miah and Azad Hossain. The clash ensued yesterday when both the groups swooped on each other with lethal weapons at about 10:30am. Police caught three people in this connection.
