Accused sent to Rajshahi central jail


Arrested Shahidullah alias Mahbub, one of the key accused in Rajshahi University Prof Yunus murder case and a Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leader, was sent to Rajshahi central jail yesterday evening.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced Shahidullah before a metropolitan magistrate court yesterday seeking a ten-day remand.

The court did not hear the CID's remand petition and sent him to jail, fixing May 6 the date for the next hearing.

Shahidullah, also husband of executed JMB kingpin Bangla Bhai's niece, was held in Bogra on Wednesday.

Total six militants were shown arrested in the case so far while four others are still absconding.

The arrestees are militant kingpin Asadullah Al Galib's grandson Shafiullah Tarik, Galib's Ahle Hadith Jubo Sangha (AHJS) adherent Golamur Rahman, Abu Isa Enamul and JMB cadre Abul Kashem Tufan.

Prof Yunus of RU Economics department, also president of Bangabandhu Parishad, was killed on December 24, 2004 when he went out for a morning walk.
