Tripti Dutta and Atiqur Rahman comfortably won gold medals on the inaugural day of the 21st National Shooting Championships yesterday.

BKSP Shooting Club's Tripti scored 477 to lift women's 50m rifle prone gold ahead of her more illustrious competitor veteran Sabrina Sultana (572) and Sharmin Shilpa (564), both of Dhaka Rifle Club.

In the day's other event, Atiqur (525 points) of Metropolitan Shooting Club, Chittagong, outscored Ayub Hossain (502) and Asif Hossain (495) to win the 50m free pistol honours.

Sports Adviser Tapan Chowdhury declared the meet open at the National Shooting Complex in Gulshan.

ACADEMY CRICKET
Half centuries by Nazimuddin and Rokibul Hasan guided Bangladesh Cricket Academy to 227 for seven against Sri Lanka Academy on the opening day of the four-day match at the Khulna Divisional Stadium.

Nazim made 66 off 176 balls and Rokibul 55 off 106 deliveries during a 104-run stand for the third wicket, which was the only time the home side looked good after electing to bat. Opener Imrul Kayes made 34 and Nadif Chowdhury contributed 24.

S Mohamed was the most successful bowler, taking three wickets for 39 before the match was called off after 81.5 overs due to rain.

AFC FESTIVAL
The AFC football Festival (Under-13) kicks off today at the BKSP with 12 teams participating in the regular event of the Asian Football Federation calendar.

The participating nations of the two-day event are Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Bangladesh.
