SI held, OC closed for bribery

A sub-inspector (SI) of police was arrested and the officer-in-charge (OC) of Joydebpur Police Station in Gazipur was closed yesterday following allegations of taking bribe, torture and forcing a detainee to sign a blank paper were found to be true.

The SI, Dadan Fakir, detained Ismail Hossain of Deeghir Chala area on April 28 and tortured him inside the police station for 36 hours in connection with a case filed by one Abdul Jalil, sources said.

The SI released him after taking Tk 20,000 from him and having him sign on a blank piece of paper, the sources added.

Ismail informed the matter to the inspector general of police (IGP) prompting the IGP to direct the Gazipur superintendent of police (SP) to investigate the matter.

The SP ordered the arrest of Dadan Fakir as the allegations were proved during his investigation.

Abdul Matin, OC of Joydebpur Police Station, was closed to Gazipur Police Lines last night, as he failed to take actions against Dadan despite having knowledge of the matter.

On Wednesday, SI Saiful Amin Saif of Highway Police Box was closed on charge of collecting money from a truck laden with timber at Gazipur Chourasta.
