JCD men beat DU journo

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists yesterday beat Dhaka University (DU) correspondent of a national daily for a report on recruitment of teachers on political grounds during the BNP-led alliance rule.Sources said Shifarul Sheikh, DU correspondent of the Bhorer Kagoj and resident of SM Hall, was beaten inside the hall by eight JCD activists. Witnesses said the attackers included Rahidul Islam Babul, Abu Saleh Mohammad Sohel and Atiqul Islam. Later, Shifarul was taken to the university medical centre and given treatment. A three-member committee, formed to investigate the matter, held one responsible for the incident. Aka Firoz, proctor of the university, hoped that the hall provost would take legal action against the responsible student.
