Prisoner killed by inmates at Dhaka jail

An under trial prisoner in Dhaka Central Jail (DCJ) fatally injured by five fellow inmates died Tuesday night, and the authorities have suspended three prison guards for neglect of duty.The victim, Abdur Razzaq, 28, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Jail sources said five inmates of the jail kicked and punched Razzak following an altercation over a window-side seat on the second floor of the prison's Meghna-2 building. At one stage, he fell down the stairs. The attackers include under trial prisoners Chaan Mia, Md Jewel, Amir Hossain and Raju and convict Bishnu Pathan. Jailor Shafiqul Islam Khan yesterday filed a case against the five with Lalbagh Police Station. The suspended jail guards are Abdur Rahman, Mujammel Haque and Bashir Mia. Razzaq was in prison since August last year in a drug case in Mirpur.
