RU Shibir cadres threaten freshers

Tension has been running high at the Bangabandhu hall of Rajshahi University (RU) as Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres threatened 15 fresh residential students to drive them away from their dormitory rooms on Sunday midnight.

Sources said the ICS cadres also gave a 24-hour ultimatum to leave the dormitories, otherwise they will face organisational action.

Earlier on Sunday, 15 fresh residential students, who got seats recently, submitted a written complaint to the hall provost and mentioned that ICS activists did not vacate their allocated seat.

Following the complaint, hall authorities recovered the ICS-controlled rooms and distributed seats among the fresh residential students.

On Sunday midnight, hundreds of armed ICS cadres led by hall General Secretary Mobarak went to the fresh resident students' room and gave 24- hour ultimatum to leave the hall and they took control of the rooms.

The residential students yesterday alleged that ICS cadres threatened them and said you must follow ICS order, otherwise you will be driven out from the hall.

The incident triggered panic among the other residential students, and many general students left the hall in apprehension of violence on the campus.

When contacted hall Provost Prof Nurul Islam told reporters that he has already received such complaint and will investigate the matter.
