Manikganj municipal chairman sued


Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against Manikganj municipal chairman and commissioner for allegedly misappropriating Tk 2,00,000.

ACC Assistant Director Md Abdul Mazed filed the cases against Chairman Md Romzan Ali and Commissioner AKM Hamidur Rashid Kajol with Manikganj Sadar Police Station yesterday.

According to the case, Romzan and Hamidur misappropriated the amount from the municipality fund in two separate occasions in the name of repairing a Pajero jeep which was damaged in a road accident in 2004.

They withdrew the money by two checks from Manikganj branches of Rupali Bank in 2004 and Islami Bank in 2007.

Earlier the ACC filed a case against Romzan on April 10.

Joint forces arrested the chairman from his residence on February 25 and the court sent him to jail custody on the following day.

The commissioner, however, was not arrested till filing of this report at 6:30pm.
