A pump operator of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills succumbed to his injuries in the prison cell of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) at 4:00am on Sunday. The victim identified as Abdur Rahman Munshi, hailed from Jhalakathi district, was severely injured by police during raids of labour colonies on the night of April 21. Munshi reportedly came under attack by police and arrested while he was trying to flee his house during the raid. Munshi had worked in the jute mill for about 27 years. He was buried at Goal Khali graveyard at Khalishpur after Zohr prayers on Sunday. Munshi is the first victim of police action of labour movement launched recently by workers of four state-owned jute mills at Khalishpur industrial belt demanding payment of arrear wages and other benefits. Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) officials refuted the allegation that he was injured in police action during the raid in the labour colonies.
