2 cops suspended, another stand released

An inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Jatrabari Police Station were suspended while an assistant commissioner of DB was stand released on various charges. DB Inspector Shahnur Alam was suspended and DB Assistant Commissioner Mozammel Haque was stand released yesterday for their negligence in duty and favouring the accused in a murder case, DB sources said. Shahnur Alam was the investigation officer and Mozammel Haque was the monitoring officer of the murder case filed with Motijheel Police Station in September 2006. The action was taken following an investigation into the allegations brought against them by the family members of the person murdered. Meanwhile, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abdul Baten of Jatrabari Police Station was suspended on charges of extortion. Fruit vendor Gopal Chandra of Shanir Akhara Japani Bazaar lodged a complaint with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-10 against Baten for forcibly taking Tk 5000 from him in tolls. The Rab team investigated the allegations and then informed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wari who suspended Baten on Sunday night.
