Four killed in road accidents

Four people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Gaibandha and Manikganj yesterday.Our Correspondent in Gaibandha reports: Two people were killed and three injured in two separate road accidents in the district yesterday. The victims were identified as Abdul Majid, 40, of village Magura at Govindaganj and Gautam Chandra Sarker, 28. Abdul Majid, a driver of a tractor, was killed on the spot and three othersthe helper of the tractor and two pedestrians, were injured when a speeding truck dashed the tractor from behind and forced its way into a roadside ditch at Bainy Harinmari on Bogra-Rangpur highway. The helper was rushed to Govindaganj Health Complex in a critical condition. In another incident, Gautam was severely injured when he was run over by a speedy tempo at Tulshighat while crossing Gaibandha-Palashbari highway. He succumbed to his injuries at Gaibandha Sadar Hospital. Our Correspondent in Manikganj adds: Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Muljan in Manikganj Sadar yesterday. The victims were identified as Shawkat Ali, 30, and his friend Arshed Ali, 30, of Natun Dhamswar village at Daulatpur in the district. Both of them were businessmen Police sources said the accident occurred at around 12:00noon when a speeding bus hit their motorcycle from behind while they were returning to Daulatpur from Manikganj. Shawkat died on the spot while Arshed succumbed to his injuries at Manikganj Sadar Hospital. The bodies were sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
