Rajuk demolishes 200 structures in Purbachol

Over two hundred houses and shops in the proposed Purbachal town project in Rupganj were demolished yesterday by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).Rajuk sources claimed that the eviction drive was carried out to ensure handover of plots to the allottees. Rajuk would arrange restitution for the original landowners who had been affected during the eviction drive, added Rajuk sources. A number of evicted landowners however said Rajuk evicted them from their ancestral houses without allocating new plots for them. Rajuk Magistrate ASM Emdadud Dastagir led the eviction drive that was assisted by the army, Rapid Action Battalion and police.
