Zonta Club IV organised a concert, featuring popular artiste Habib, at Bashundhara Convention Centre on March 3. The concert was part of Zonta Club IV's annual fundraising event aimed at the betterment of women. Proceeds from the sales of tickets will be used to educate children and provide health care to underprivileged women. The event began with a few words from the president of the organisation, Salma Masud, who warmly welcomed all and shared how Zonta has been dedicated to the development of the poor, providing education for underprivileged children and health assistance to the needy as well working for gender equality. A documentary on the different projects run by Zonta Club IV was screened. The four major sectors where Zonta extends their support are technology, medical services, agriculture and information technology development. Some of the successful projects run by Zonta are the Nabokoli Girls' School in Badda where the organisation bears the cost of providing education to the poor; the breast cancer awareness programme where Dr Suraiya Rahman worked along with the organisation to provide free consultation, treatment and medical assistance to the needy, the City Hospital Ltd project to provide free medical treatment for acid victims and the Islamia Eye Hospital project to restore the sight of underprivileged patients. Habib himself had donated Taka 70,000 to Zonta's charity programmes. He shared with the audience his reaction when he was approached for the concert: "It struck me instantly. I thought it's one of those good things that we should all do." The artiste rendered some of his all-time favourites including Shah Abdul Karim's Kemone bhulibo ami and Maya. Among other songs performed at the concert were Din gelo, Ekhoni nambe brishti and Habib's claim to fame Krishno. An enthusiastic audience cheered on and sang along with their favourite singer-musician. The event finished off with a sumptuous dinner and a raffle draw.
