Folklore collector Sidur dies


Renowned folklore collector Mohammad Sidur died yesterday at his residence at Binnagon of Kishoreganj Sadar upazila.

He was 67. He left behind his wife and three sons.

Bangla Academy published seven parts the folklore collected and edited by Mohammad Sidur.

In 1974, Bangla Academy held a solo exhibition of folklore collected by him. The White Chappel Gallery in London arranged solo exhibition of Sidur's folklore collections in 1988. The Shilpakala Academy also put up a display of 'Nokshi Katha' jointly collected by Shipacharja Jainul Abedin and Mohammad Sidur in 1989. Sidur became a fellow of Bangla Academy in 2001.

He was buried at his family graveyard after his Namaj-e-Janaja held on Kishoreganj Press Club premises.
