DU asked to give exact figure of proceeds from admission tests

The Ministry of Education has directed the authorities of Dhaka University (DU) to submit the accurate figure of its earnings collected from the first year admission tests.

A letter was already sent to the DU authorities to submit a report in this connection, officials of the DU Vice-chancellor's office said in the city yesterday.

They said the DU earned about Tk three crore by selling 1,09,375 admission forms of four units to the first year honours students during the 2006-07 academic session.

Treasurer of the DU Prof Abul Kalam Azad told BSS that the admission committee comprising the deans of different faculties have deposited only 25 percent of the total income to the university fund under the existing rule.

"But there is no concrete calculation for what the larger portion of the money has been spent so far," he also said adding that the rest 75 percent of the total earnings were meant for development works.

Prof Azad, however, asserted that the university authorities would take disciplinary action if any allegation of misuse of this money is proved.
