A new hope
Nur Jahan, Chittagong
Our deepest gratitude and thanks to the caretaker government for performing its duties efficiently, people are feeling relieved. The adviser for law, justice and parliamentary affairs, Mainul Hossein, said on February 21, 2007 that " The country should be saved from the hands of looters" and remarked that the martyrs' ideology has been ignored as a section of people with the mindset of plundering public wealth ruled the country. He cannot be more accurate, we helplessly watched corruption, devouring of public property, injustice etc. Now we are seeing the light, not at the end of the tunnel but the whole tunnel has been illuminated. We have started dreaming of a country which we could be proud of. The corrupt people have let down the martyrs of the language movement and the liberation war, for their selfish purpose they did not hesitate to belittle the supreme sacrifice. The caretaker government must take time as much as it needs. We are astonished by Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina's suggestion that election be held with an updated list with voters' photographs. We want to ask where is her demand of voters' ID and transparent ballot box? The BNP is also demanding election without delay. Why have they become so impatient? It is quite clear that both the parties have become anxious and uneasy knowing very well that as time goes by, more misdeeds done by their party men will come to light and it will harm their image.
