Detention of Laloo
HC rule on govt
Unb, Dhaka
The High Court yesterday issued a rule upon the government to explain why the detention order of Helaluzzaman Talukder Laloo, a former BNP MP, should not be declared illegal. The rule, returnable in two weeks, came following a habeas corpus petition filed by Laloo's sister, Dr Sujatunnahar, challenging the government action. On February 14, law enforcers arrested Laloo from his residence in Bogra. He was later sent to jail with a 30-day detention under the Special Powers Act 1974. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal appeared for the petitioner.
