BSF, BDR trade fire

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) traded gunfire on Laxmidari border under Sadar upazila in the district yesterday.

The BSF of Ghojadanga Camp under Basirhat Police Station in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal fired three shots targeting the BDR of Bhomra Camp, forcing the BDR to retaliate with 12 bullets at about 5:30am.

After the incident, the Indian border guards reinforced their strength along the entire border out posts and increased the patrols.

The BDR was also put on alert to meet any eventuality, BDR sources said.

When contacted, Lt Col Mohammad Asif Abdur Rouf, commanding officer of 41 rifles battalion, confirmed the incident.
