S M Sultan Padak is awarded by S M Sultan Foundation and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Narail to mark the 82nd birth anniversary of renowned artist S M Sultan as well as Sultan Mela.

Haq, also a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, will receive the award tomorrow, on the closing day of the fair, the press release added.

Born in 1945 at Bagerhat, Mahmudul completed his honours from Institute of Fine Arts in 1968 and also obtained masters' degree in fine arts from Sakuba University in Japan in 1984.

He also received Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award in 1992 and also received honorary prize in bi-annual exhibition of Asian Fine Arts in 1993, 1995 and 1997 respectively.

He has served as the Director General of National Museum from 2004 to 2006.
