Eto'o rested for Cup tie

Barcelona said on Tuesday they will rest three-time African Player of the Year Samuel Eto'o in their Spanish Cup quarterfinal return leg on Wednesday against Real Zaragoza on medical advice.

"The club doctors are recommending he continue to be rested," the club said on its website.

Eto'o scored in Sunday's 3-0 Nou Camp stroll over Athletic Bilbao in his first full match since returning from a four-month absence caused by a serious knee injury, but gave way midway through the second half to Argentine Lionel Messi.

The striker criticised coach Frank Rijkaard two weeks ago after the latter suggested he refused to go on as a substitute in his league return against Racing Santander, but Sunday's win appears to have smoothed ruffled feathers in the Barca camp.

Rijkaard left Eto'o out for last week's Champions League home loss to Liverpool but is banking on him being ready for next week's return leg at Anfield.
