Veron in Argentina camp

Midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron, who has not played for Argentina since 2003, has been included in a squad of locally-based players named by coach Alfio Basile for a training camp. The former Lazio, Inter Milan and Manchester United player made his last international appearance in the 1-1 draw away to Colombia in November 2003. He was not picked at all under Jose Pekerman who was in charge from 2004 until the end of last year's World Cup. Veron lost popularity with the Argentine public when he was blamed for the team's first-round elimination at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan. He returned home in the middle of last year to play for Estudiantes de La Plata and inspired the team as they won the Apertura championship.
