OC closed, 3 SIs suspended

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Katiadi Police Station in Kishoreganj was closed to District Police Lines yesterday while three sub-inspectors (SI) were suspended in connection with detaining people and forcing them to give bribe for their release.The policemen are: OC Shahjar Hosen Sharif and sub-inspectors Abu Hosen, Harun-ur-Rashid and Abdul Latif, sources in the office of Kishoreganj superintendent of police (SP) said. On contact, the district SP admitted to the OC's closure and the suspension of the SIs but refused to make any further comments. Sources said Shamsul Huq, Shajahan Mia, Ratan Mia, Babul Mia and Sobhan Mia of Boalia Charia in Katiadi upazila were detained by the four policemen and later released after they were forced to give bribe for their release. Sources said the five men, who happened to live in the inspector general of police's (IGP) home upazila, informed the IGP about the matter and he launched an investigation. The four policemen allegedly retuned the money taken from the five in order to evade conviction, the sources added.
