The incident took place around 2:00pm in the godown of the factory in Mirpur Section 14.

Sources said the fire originated from a burning cigarette left by someone and soon engulfed the entire godown leaving clothing materials worth some lakhs badly damaged.

Workers and employees of the garment managed to come out of the fire-affected area and none was hurt.

Three fire fighting units rushed to the spot and managed to douse the fire in about half an hour.
