Cash, valuables worth Tk 14 lakh looted from 4 city houses


Armed robbers looted cash and valuables totalling about Tk 14 lakh from four houses in different areas of the city in the last two days.

In Shayampur, a gang of robbers stormed into a house at around 5:00am yesterday and took away cash, gold ornaments and other valuables totalling about Tk 5 lakh.

About seven robbers entered the house of Manjur Hossain at Muradpur High School Road when a member of his family came out of the house, keeping the door open.

The gang tied up the family members and kept them confined to a room. They then looted Tk 30,000, 20 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables.

A robbery case was filed with Shyampur Police Station.

Another gang committed a robbery in the house of Mohammad Sirajul Islam, 40, a businessman, at West Rampura. The robbers also stabbed him in his chest when he tried to resist them.

The gang of seven or eight robbers entered the house at around 12:15am yesterday after a member of the family opened the door hearing the doorbell.

The robbers then pointed a gun at the family members and looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Tk 3 lakh.

Injured Siraj was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later, he was shifted to a private clinic.

In another incident, robbers looted cash and gold ornaments totalling Tk 2.75 lakh from the house of a retired government official at South Bisil in Mirpur on Friday night.

A gang of seven equipped with machetes entered the flat of Khorshed Alam on the first floor the building at around 7:00pm after a member of his family opened the door hearing the doorbell.

The gang then took away Tk 1 lakh and 12 tolas of gold ornaments, police said.

Another robbery took place at the house of Ismat Ara at Dakhin Goran, Khilgaon, at around 10:00am on Friday.

The robbers held the family members hostage at gunpoint and looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Tk 2.98 lakh.

Ismat Ara lodged a robbery case with Khilgaon Police Station in this connection.

Police could not arrest anybody in connection with the robberies as of 8:00pm yesterday.
