BDR, BSF trade gunshots on Satkhira border


Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) on Friday night traded heavy gunfire across the border areas under three Satkhira upazilas with no casualty reported.

According to sources, BSF personnel of Tarali and Daharkanda camps under Swarupnagar Police Station of 24 Parganas district, which are opposite to Keragachhi and Madra borders of Kalaroa upazila, fired about 22 bullets targeting BDR men of Kakdanga and Madra camps at about 3:00am forcing the BDR to retaliate with about 25 shots.

In another incident, the BSF of Amudia camp of the same Indian district, located opposite to Bangladeshi Taluigachha camp, fired eight shots at around 3:30am. BDR answered with about 18 shots, the sources added.

Padmashakhra Camp BDR fired about 20 bullets to retaliate shots from Soladana Camp BSF of 24 Parganas at about 3:30am.

When contacted, Lt Col Md Asif Abdur Rouf, commanding officer of 41 Rifles Battalion, confirmed the incident and said BSF men fired about 60 shots.

A tense situation is prevailing along the border area as gun battles were taking place one after another between the two border security forces since last two weeks.
