British Airways sees profits fall
Afp, London
British Airways said Friday that third-quarter net profits sank 12.0 percent and revealed it would lose 80 million pounds (121 million euros, 157 million dollars) from this week's aborted cabin crew strike. Net profits retreated to 103 million pounds in the three months ending December 31, 2006, compared with 117 million in the same period of the previous financial year, BA said in a quarterly earnings release. The airline's performance was hampered by severe fog that sparked 800 flight cancellations over the peak-time Christmas period. BA has also suffered from the ongoing impact of the extra security measures put in place after a terror alert in Britain last August.
