Defamation case against Jugantor


A Dhaka court yesterday ordered a judicial inquiry into a defamation case against Jugantor proprietor, editor and publisher filed by Mohammad Noor Ali, managing director of Unique Eastern (Pvt) Ltd.

Metropolitan Magistrate Selina Akhter passed the order after Noor Ali filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court against Jugantor Proprietor Nurul Islam Babul, Editor Golam Sarwar and Publisher Advocate Salma Islam.

In his complaint, Noor Ali mentioned that the newspaper published 18 stories on him in as many issues casting aspersions on his character.

He also said the news items are false, fabricated and concocted and were published to tarnish his image in society.
