Raid on Factories
38 sacks of polybags, raw materials seized


A mobile court seized a huge quantity of polythene bags, raw materials, and machinery from two polythene bag factories in old part of the city yesterday.

Some 38 sacks of polybags, 16 sacks of raw materials, and four machines were seized from Nandan-Anondo Polythene Factory at 3 Umesh Dutta lane in Lalbagh.

The mobile court sealed off the factory on Monday and raided the factory building yesterday to seize the bags and materials.

Factory owner AKM Sadek Hossain Naim along with his family lives in the same building, but the mobile court yesterday found them missing. Their room was locked from outside.

The court also found that the factory owner had cut the grille of the factory and tried to take away the sacks of polybags.

Magistrate Rokon Ud Doula issued an arrest warrant against Naim, who is operating the factory illegally for the last eight years.

Later, the court raided another polythene bag factory, Unique Trading Industries, at 1 Umesh Dutta lane and seized polybags and raw materials.

A case was also filed against factory owner Wasim Iqbal and manager Wasiqullah. They were also fined Tk one lakh.

Officials of the Department of Environment were present during the raid.
