Abahani deny Biman clean sweep

Hamlet and Saleha emerged champions in the men's and women's singles competitions respectively in the Federation Cup invitational table tennis tournament which concluded yesterday.

Saleha was startled in the first set but bounced back to beat her Abahani teammate Rumi 11-13, 11-17, 11-9, 7-11, 11-6, 13-11 in the final at the NSC Woodenfloor Gymnasium.

In a thrilling all-Biman men's final, Hamlet edged Pappu 6-11, 11-9, 1-11, 11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 11-8.

Biman's Rocky won the boys' singles title while the men's and boys' team events both went to the national airliners.

Abahani, however, denied them a clean sweep by clinching the women's team title.
