Buriganga Clean-up
BIWTA knocks down 66 illegal structures


A team of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) yesterday knocked down 66 concrete structures of Hasnabad, Naiyatola and Mirerbagh areas located on the Keraniganj side of the river Buriganga.

"It was a factory of Nazim Chairman, who is a very influential person at Keraniganj area," Sharif Afzal Hossain, a BIWTA official said after the drive, adding they tried to demolish this one-storey structure earlier but failed.

The BIWTA officials also partially demolished several factories and residences yesterday, sources said.

DHAKA CITY CORPORATION (DCC)
Five people were injured during a Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) drive yesterday to knock down establishments near Bashundhara Shopping Mall at Panthapath in the city.

The DCC officials, in presence of Rab and police personnel, destroyed several roadside shops and restaurants located at the left side of the mall.

According to the local people, five people were injured as they were working inside a roadside restaurant during the drive.

Two of the injured-- Billal Hossain and Mohammed Yusuf-- were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

WASA DRIVE
A mobile court of the Water and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) yesterday realised Tk 10,00,000 from a factory of former MP Kaikobad at Tejgaon industrial area.

Later, the court raided Bengal Trading International to realise Tk 4,92,000 but found it locked. However, they found an illegal deep tubewell connection and cut it off.

The court, led by magistrate Kazi Wachhiuddin, also disconnected the illegal connection of water pipelines of Jenny Kabab in Gulshan and detained one staff.

They also disconnected some other water pipeline connections of Badda and Uttara areas.
