Row over resignation of BMC vice-principal

Mystery shrouds the resignation of chairperson of Physiotherapy department at Bangladesh Medical College (BMC) hampering the study of around 200 students.They have been agitating for the last couple of months demanding resignation of their chairperson Dr Mohammad Moniruzzaman. Earlier, the students demanded the resignation of Dr Moniruzzaman from the post of vice-principal bringing allegation of corruption and harassment to female students against him. Following the complaints and agitation of the students, a six-member investigation committee led by Principal Prof MA Zaman was formed. On the basis of the committee report, Dr Moniruzzaman would be removed. "The governing body of the college also verbally assured us on November 29 that Dr Moniruzzaman will not come to the college any more," said Urmee, a student of Physiotherapy unit. As the students staged a sit-in on the campus yesterday to meet their demand, the governing body handed over a written copy saying Dr Moniruzzaman has resigned from the post of the head of the department and would not come to the campus. Meanwhile, Dr Moniruzzaman said he resigned from the posts of vice-principal and head of the department on September 5.
