Rab member's body recovered from Pashur

The rescue team recovered the body of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-6 Platoon Commander Kanchan Ali yesterday morning from Karamjol, seven miles off Pashur estuary near Mongla seaport.Ali, along with two others, died in an encounter between the law enforcers and a gang of pirates in the Pashur estuary on Friday night. Earlier, the dead bodies of Amirul Islam and MH Kabir, both members of Bangladesh Coast Guard, were recovered on Saturday and Sunday from the place of occurrence. Ali is a son of Abdur Rashid Peyada and hailed from Auliapur village under Bakerganj upazila of Barisal. Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Mongla (west zone) Abu Taher said the rescue team also recovered arms and ammunition carried by the three dead. According to Taher, the searching team recovered two unidentified dead bodies from the river Pashur though he was not sure whether these were of the pirates, who sustained bullet injuries during the encounter. He said the two probe committees, formed on Saturday, would start investigation next Friday. Commanding Officer of Rab-6 Lt Col Shams told The Daily Star that they will continue the combing operation in the Sundarbans area.
