On the caretaker government's latest decision on Election Commission reconstitution, changes in election schedule and voter roll, BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan yesterday said BNP will not accept anything beyond the constitution. "BNP is a big party. If the caretaker government bends under any pressure then we can go on action," Mannan Bhuiyan said when a reporter asked him whether they would boycott the election if anything is done beyond the constitution. "According to the constitution, the election must be held within 90 days and we will not accept crossing the time limit fixed by the constitution," he said at a press briefing at Hawa Bhaban last night. On the move of the caretaker government (CG) advisers to appoint a new acting Chief Election Commissioner, he said, "I do not know whether there is any provision in the constitution in this regard. They can appoint only new commissioners." He, however, said, "We have congratulated the advisers on their initiative to solve the political crisis. But they [advisers] did not communicate with us today [Monday]. I saw their briefing on television. They did not even propose any name as election commissioner. We have our say on the matter." On the decision taken by the CG over voter list update, he said, "We earlier said that the voter list could be corrected until the election. And it is possible to hold an acceptable election through the current voter roll." Expressing resentment over the transfers of government official, Bhuiyan said the caretaker government can shift only the election-related officers. He said they want to see an end to the current political impasse and also want that their opponents would join the election.
