Trainee nurses demand removal of teacher

Students of Seba Institute, a government nurse training institute in Sirajganj, yesterday staged a demonstration protesting alleged harassment of students by a teacher and demanding his removal.

They brought out a procession in the town and held a rally at Sirajganj General Hospital ground.

Speakers at the rally alleged that the teacher tried to physically abuse a student when she went to his office room on Saturday. Hearing her screams, other students rushed to the spot and rescued her, they said.

After the incident, students locked the doctor in a room at the hospital.

On information, other doctors led by Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Awal came and rescued him promising action against the doctor, the student said at the rally.

Shortly after the doctor's release, a gang of miscreants, reportedly engaged by the doctor, attacked and damaged furniture and beds in some rokms at the hospital, they said.

Being informed, Sadar thana police rushed to the hospital and arrested two of the attackers but released them yesterday.

After the rally, the students submitted a memorandum to Civil Surgeon Mizanur Rahman demanding remove to the culprit doctor.

When contacted, the Civil Surgeon said steps would be taken against the doctor.
