One murdered, two shot in city


One person was murdered, two people were shot and two others stabbed in separate incidents in the city yesterday.

Police recovered the body of a man in the city yesterday.

He was identified as Mohammad Harun, 30, a taxi driver of Madartak in Sabujbagh.

His body was found lying in a drain near Mollartak in Dakkhinkhan at around 6:30am.

Sources say the body was left there by unknown criminals with several stab injuries in the chest and abdomen.

Police also recovered his taxicab from the spot.

The body was identified by the victim's relatives when it was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.

Mohammad Farooq, a relative of the deceased, informed the police that Harun had been missing since Saturday morning when he left home with his taxicab.

Momtaz Begum, 35, an informant of Motijheel police, was attacked by a group of local extortionists who stormed into her house at Shantibagh.

They stabbed her on her chest and abdomen after severe beating.

Sources said the criminals took revenge on her as Momtaz helped police arrest one of their accomplices.

In another incident two men riding on a motorbike forcefully picked up one Shafiqul Islam, 32, from Mirpur and after reaching at Jootpatti area shot in his two legs and fled away.

"They attacked me as I asked my employer not to pay tolls to Shahdat, a top-listed criminal, " said Shafiqul, a sub-contractor.

Meanwhile, one Mohammad Nayan, received bullet injuries in his leg while going to Jatrabari from Swamibagh with his mother in a rickshaw.

Locals said as he raised an alarm when three muggers stopped their rickshaw near Jatrabari fruit market and tried to snatch the gold chain of his mother, they fired two shots at him.

And at Katashoor BRTC bus stop at around 4 :00pm, three muggers stabbed Abdul Awal, a hawker, for Tk 400.

Locals however managed to capture one mugger and handed him to police.
