Fair Polls
'Make EC, admin free from BNP-Jamaat grip'

Making the Election Commission (EC) and administration free from the control of the BNP-Jamaat is the prerequisite for holding a free and fair election, leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) said yesterday.

They also said the president is still satisfying BNP-Jamaat alliance whenever he got a chance to do so.

The CPB leaders were speaking at a rally in front of its central office at Purana Paltan in the city on the first day of their countrywide demonstration demanding cancellation of 'illegal' and 'farce' election schedule, reconstitution of the EC by removing the 'controversial' persons in the EC, resignation of the president from the post of chief adviser and implementation of their 53-point demand for making the election free from money game and muscle power.

Addressing the rally, they said the EC is failing to send voter lists in different areas of the country despite announcing the election schedule.

Expressing resentment over the price hike of seeds and fertilisers, they demanded supply of seeds and fertilisers in a reasonable price.

Ruhin Hossain Prince, Mahbub Alam and Ahsan Habib Lavlu also spoke at the rally.

Following the rally, they brought out a procession that paraded different city streets.
