RU confirms 212 more controversial recruits

The Syndicate of Rajshahi University at an extra ordinary meeting yesterday regularised jobs of 212 more controversial recruits amid protest.

The Syndicate also confirmed jobs of 300 other class III and IV employees on November 2, out of 546, who were recruited on political consideration.

The meeting was held amid protest by pro-Awami League teachers and 'note of dissent' against the decision.

Prof Abdus Sobhan and Prof Saiful Islam gave the 'note of dissent' at the meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof Altaf Hossain in the chair. They also gave a written letter to the VC in this regard.

Prof Abdus Sobhan is also convener of Progressive Teacher's Society.

In the letter they mentioned that as the matter of 546 recruits is under trial with the court, regularisation of their jobs was violation of court's order. Later, they walked out of the meeting protesting the decision, campus sources said.

A total of 546 employees loyal to BNP and Jamaat were recruited in 2004 on political consideration and in exchange for money.

Seven, out of eight agenda, were related to regularisation of jobs of controversial employees.

Prof Sobhan said, 'We will launch fresh agitation at a general meeting today.'
