The ill-fated man was identified as Abdul Malek, 45, son of late Abdullah of village East Haidgaon.

Sources said Malek along with his son Sohel, 17, went to nearby field to guard their paddy at around 9:00pm.

At around 11:30pm, a wild elephant emerged from the nearby hill and trampled Malek leaving him dead on the spot.

Sohel could manage to flee sensing the presence of the elephant, sources said.

Earlier in October, a herd of wild elephant killed five of a family and damaged three houses at Adarshagram of Banskhali upazila.
