College Student Murder
Father cries for justice, seeks security for family members
Staff Correspondent
The father of slain college student Kamrul Islam Momin yesterday appealed to the president/chief adviser to take security measures for his family members as the accused, now on bail, are threatening to kill them.Momin, a third year student of Mirpur Commerce College, was shot dead at Kafrul in the city following a feud over land with the then officer-in-charge (OC) AKM Rafiqul Islam of Motijheel Police Station on September 13 last year. At a press conference in the city, Abdur Razzak, father of Momin, said 14 months have already elapsed after the killing by 'hired goons', but the charge sheet has not yet been submitted. The Investigation Officer (IO) has been dilly-dallying in submitting the charge sheet, he added. The criminals are roaming freely and have even attacked the witnesses of the case, he said. Despite the home ministry's directive to complete the investigation within a month and submit the charge sheet, the IO did not take any initiative in this regard, said Razzak. He also called for immediate transfer of the case to a speedy trial tribunal and a judicial investigation into the killing. He also urged the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to provide security as members of his family feel insecure due to threat from the criminals.
