No court calls for Chappell
Pti, Kolkata
A defamation case, filed against India's cricket coach Greg Chappell for his controversial comments against the country's parliamentarians, was on Saturday withdrawn by the petitioner. The ninth judicial magistrate at Alipore Court, who was scheduled to hear the matter on Saturday, accepted the application for withdrawal of the case as "not pressed." Petitioner cum lawyer Somnath Dey filed an application before the magistrate stating that owing to changed circumstances and in view of requests of many sports lovers, he was not inclined to proceed with the case. Dey also cited the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2007 and his unwillingness to disturb the team and its management before the tournament as another reason for withdrawing the defamation case against Chappell.
