Vandalism At SC
Cops identify 4 among 8 from video footages

The Detective and Crime Intelligence unit identified at least four people including a lawyer who vandalised the offices of the attorney general and the chief justice as well as a vehicle on the High Court premises on Thursday.

A top official of the Detective and Crime Intelligence unit, formerly known as the Detective Branch, said they gathered pictures of around eight persons after scanning the video footages.

"We succeeded in identifying the names and other details of a lawyer and three others," the official told The Daily Star last night seeking anonymity.

Meanwhile, the two cases filed for vandalising the offices of the attorney general and the chief justice and for creating disturbance in court proceedings were transferred to the intelligence unit yesterday.

"We have collected the case dockets and negatives of snaps from the video footages taken by different television channels," Additional Deputy Commissioner of the intelligence unit Shafiqul Islam told The Daily Star.

He said they will launch a massive manhunt to arrest the assailants after collecting all details.

Meanwhile, two people arrested on Friday by Shahbagh police in connection with the vandalism were placed on a one-day remand yesterday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mir Ali Reza granted the remand after investigation officers (IO) of the two cases prayed for a five-day remand for Abdul Mannan and Mohammad Afzal -- saying the two might have links with the attack.
