Many houses, BNP offices and shops were also damaged during the clashes.

The seriously injured AL men are Saiful Islam, his wife Monowara Begum, Mohammad Shafiul Islam, Mohammad Marfat Ali, Belal Hossain, Tota Mia, Rokeya Begum, Moriam Begum and Belal.

The BNP activists, who were seriously injured, are Zillur Rahman, Bellal, Nurjahan, Zahir, Abu Baker, Shahjahan, Kalam, Kader, Amir Ali, Mohammad Ali, Mizan and Mansur Ali.

Police and locals said the activists of both parties clashed at Comilla Tila, Amtali, and Sabujbagh in Sadar upazila yesterday morning to take control of the areas.

On Thursday night, the activists of the rival parties clashed at Dewan Bazar, Ramsira and Tabalchhari in Matiranga upazila for the same purpose.

District BNP Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Millat blamed the Awami League activists for the attacks. He demanded immediate arrest of the AL men involved.

On the other hand, District Awami League General Secretary Zahedul Alam alleged that BNP cadres attacked his party men and damaged their houses. He claimed that at least 25 AL men were injured in the attacks.

The AL leader demanded exemplary punishment to the BNP activists responsible for the attacks.

No-one was arrested in connection with the incidents as of 6:00pm yesterday.
