Annan's envoy discusses polls with Mashhud

Craig Jenness, special envoy to the UN secretary general, called on Adviser Lt General (retd) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury at his secretariat office yesterday.During the meeting, they discussed the upcoming general elections in Bangladesh. Jenness said the UN Secretary General Kafi Annan has sent him to Bangladesh to convey his (Annan) support for a free and fair election in Bangladesh. He hoped that a fruitful and effective dialogue could help remove all obstacles to holding a free and fair election in Bangladesh. He also lauded the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in the UN peacekeeping missions. The adviser thanked the envoy for his visit to Bangladesh.
